Terra Marie - Week 7 Devlog

Terra Marie - Week 7 Devlog

October 3rd - October 9th

10 hours + 25 minutes

October 3rd - 2 hours 45 minutes

I had a quick 45-minute work session on the hub when I hit a roadblock on the bridge. The idea was to have the bridge start out normal, but then twist upside down. I was having trouble visualizing this, so I requested help from Daelyn.

In addition, the group had a 2-hour meeting to discuss the story, plot, and gameplay aspects. While we discussed some good details, we still left the meeting a bit confused, so we agreed that the task for the week would be to cease further level designs and focus solely on the story.

October 4th - 1 hour

We did say that we would only work on the story, however, our 25% mark was coming up, so it was important that I finish the hub design. Daelyn finished the bridge and I was able to extend upon it. Compared to last week’s work, it can be seen that I added a couple more areas to the hub between the 3rd and the 4th.

October 5th - 2 hours

Because the direction of the story was feeling a little lost to the group, I did speak to an outside source to try and poke holes in the story. I wanted to see if I could pinpoint what we were missing and what didn’t make sense from an impartial perspective. As a group, we heard the story many times and we threw around so many ideas that it seemed to get confusing and overly complicated for us. So, I told the story to the outside source with as much detail as to what the group had decided on. This ended up being a very productive conversation and I came out of the conversation with a lot of ideas and things that needed to change.

October 8th - 1 hour 30 minutes

I had an individual meeting with Daelyn and talked about my findings from the previous session I had with the outside source. Daelyn and I agreed on much of what the source had to say, and with this information, we were able to come up with a more finalized story and answer a lot of questions that we needed for the group to continue moving forward.

October 9th - 2 hours 10 minutes

Daelyn and I did talk, but we still needed to take everything that the group had previously agreed on, as well as what Daelyn and I had agreed on, and then condense it into a single sequenced document. So, I scanned through our 6 group documents (about 36 pages), as well as the notes that I had taken from my talk on the 5th and from my talk with Daelyn on the 8th. I wrote out the story in a more beginning-to-end format that was hopefully understandable and as detailed as possible.

October 9th - 1 hour

Group meeting. Here we discussed the more finalized story and what would change as a result. Moving forward, as a group, we should have a much clearer understanding of what needs to be done.
